Our history

Combining our love for honey with our passion for beverage production, we have become one of the largest mead producers in Northern and Central Europe, offering a wide range of honey-based alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.Lithuanian Mead is located in the heart of Lithuania, in the picturesque town of Stakliški. Our history dates back to 1889, when a unique brewery was established, and since 1959, Stakliškės mead has become one of the company's best known and most valuable products. The drink has a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).

What is mead

Mead is one of the world's oldest alcoholic beverages, and its popularity is growing rapidly today as it is rediscovered by a growing number of consumers. It is a naturally fermented honey beverage, produced using processes similar to wine production, with a strength of 14-15 %.Although the tradition of mead production has remained unchanged for centuries, it is now the basis for a wide range of modern products, from mead nectars and spirits to cocktails and light, carbonated mead drinks.

Production

Many people still mistakenly believe that mead is a very sweet, strong drink, once drunk only by priests or monks. While this may have been true in the past, today mead has evolved. The mead we create is a link between the world's oldest drink and modern craftsmanship. Today, we produce light, refreshing mead drinks with the highest quality ingredients and natural additives, and distil mead to create a wide range of high quality spirits.

Keeping to high standards quality standards and responsible manufacturing principles, we have implemented ISO 9001:2015 (LST EN ISO 9001:2015) a quality management system to ensure consistent improvement of production processes and product reliability.
